    Spread Joy: Adopt-a-Student for the Holidays!

    It's the most wonderful time of the year to make a tangible difference in a student's life. Join us in this cherished annual holiday tradition, beloved by members and friends of the Club!

    You can bring a huge smile to a student in need enrolled in the Heights High School Communities in Schools (CIS) program by adopting them for the holidays!


    Here's how you can help:

    1. Sign Up & Shop: Fill out the form below to receive a student’s personalized wish list. This will guide you in creating a gift bag valued between $100 and $150.

    1. Team Up: Want to double the fun (and share the cost)? Many people team up with a friend or family member to shop together!

    2. Spread the Word: We warmly welcome non-members to participate—the more, the merrier, as we strive to provide a gift bag for every student.

      Fill out the Wish List sign-up form to be matched with a student from the Heights High School CIS Program.

      Program: Please join us at the clubhouse and hear from our very own Heights Boulevard Broads (they don't mind being called that!) as they regale us with stories of the Heights over the last (ahem!) several decades and share with us some of the mostly true history of our very own neighborhood.  Feel free to wear your ugliest holiday sweater as designated by your best friend, or your favorite party dress! Bonus points for bells, tinsel, reindeer ears, or dreidels! 

      Community Outreach: Members are invited to bring food items such as meals in a can, canned vegetables, soup, tomato sauce, dried beans and peanut butter for our neighborhood Heights Interfaith Ministries Food Pantry. 

      Holiday Potluck Luncheon: Tamales will be provided, please bring your favorite side dish or dessert.

       Volunteer Call: CIS Holiday Party!

      We need only 5 or 6 more volunteers for the CIS Holiday Party on December 11. Plan to meet at the Heights High School front office at 11:00 AM to help set up, host, and clean up. The event wraps up by 1:30 PM.

      You've earned it! Join us for the very last Happy Hour of 2025—a chance to relax, socialize, and celebrate all the hard work we put in this year.

      Wind down the year with us at our December Happy Hour - Just Because in the recently opened Queen Bee's Tearoom. This beautiful space has been reserved exclusively for us!

      What to Expect:

      • The Club will be providing complimentary appetizers.

      • Members are welcome to order any additional food and, of course, purchase their own cocktails from the menu.

      • Due to space constraints, this event is capped at 50 registrations. Once the limit is reached, the waitlist will be electronically activated. Any newly opened slots due to cancellation will be assigned to the next member on the waitlist via an automatic email notification.

    4. Weekday Activities Group (WAG) - Rothko Chapel at the Menil

      For the last month of the year we will visit the reflective sanctuary of the Rothko Chapel, located at the Menil.  We'll start with guided tour of the Chapel's history, art, and architecture, then view the grounds before jaunting off to the Southern Yankee Crafthouse in Montrose, 1312 W Alabama. Menu here. Weather permitting we will sit outside on their covered porch and enjoy our tiny amount of moderate Houston weather while sampling Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Chicken Kale Cobb Salad, Spicy Goat (cheese that is) Pizza, Slow Dough Pretzel Bread Puddin', and Peach Cobbler! 

      Meet at the clubhouse to carpool, if desired, at 10am. 

      We can't wait to see you there, sporting your HHWC t-shirt!

      Annual Holiday Party + We'll discuss The English Understand Wool by Helen Dewitt

      Raised in Marrakech by a French mother and English father, a 17-year-old girl has learned above all to avoid mauvais ton ("bad taste" loses something in the translation). One should not ask servants to wait on one during Ramadan: they must have paid leave while one spends the holy month abroad. One must play the piano; if staying at Claridge’s, one must regrettably install a Clavinova in the suite, so that the necessary hours of practice will not be inflicted on fellow guests. One should cultivate weavers of tweed in the Outer Hebrides but have the cloth made up in London; one should buy linen in Ireland but have it made up by a Thai seamstress in Paris (whose genius has been supported by purchase of suitable premises). All this and much more she has learned, governed by a parent of ferociously lofty standards. But at 17, during the annual Ramadan travels, she finds all assumptions overturned. Will she be able to fend for herself? Will the dictates of good taste suffice when she must deal, singlehanded, with the sharks of New York?

      Join us for some season merry making as we celebrate the end of another year of creativity! We will gather for a holiday themed pot luck dinner and member Gloria Wilson will lead us in making an origami craft. Craft complexity will be adjusted to experience level of participants.

      Join us for Books & Tea, the Literary Group's annual event that brings together book lovers and a local author. This year, we welcome acclaimed local author and investigative journalist Lise Olsen! Lise will discuss her gripping true crime book, The Scientist and the Serial Killer, an unforgettable narrative of forensic science, missing persons, and unsolved crimes.

      The Scientist and the Serial Killer tells the remarkable story of Dr. Sharon Derrick, a Texas forensic anthropologist who dedicated years to identifying the victims of the notorious 1970s Houston-area serial killer Dean Corll—known as the Lost Boys of Houston.       The clubhouse embraces Mardi Gras! Please join us in your traditional New Orleans colors of purple, green, and gold, as we learn about the history of Mardi Gras from our very own Jamie Renton, former New Orleans Mardi Gras Queen. We will be treated to a fascinating educational talk delving into the history of the day, starting with Roman times and how it has been celebrated through the centuries.  Also on hand will be lots of Mardi Gras couture and regalia, so feel free to wear or bring your own!   Fun accoutrements are encouraged to be worn! 

      Community Outreach: Members are invited to bring Valentine candy which will be used to prepare treat bags to accompany the gorgeous cards we will be creating the following week.

      Potluck Luncheon: Lunch will be potluck so please bring your favorite dish. To celebrate the tradition, a King Cake desert direct from New Orleans will be provided.

      Queen Bee Spirits was founded by two friends who were looking for a spirit that was gluten free, grain free, nightshade free, chemical free, and glycerin free. Queen Bee's Osmia Vodka is a premium spirit made from honey, and is a perfect base for festive cocktails. 

      Catharine and Kim will share 12 holiday cocktail recipes and lead us in concocting (and imbibing!) some of them over appetizers.

      Meet at the clubhouse to celebrate the Month of Love as we get crafty! This will be our annual Valentine's Day card creating, but super-sized.  Bring your pinking shears and be ready to glue, glitter, and glam!  (Everything other than the pinking shears will be provided.) Mimosas and snacks will be on hand as we prepare cards to send our well wishes to women and children in local shelters who could use a little something to smile about.  We will also be bagging the candy brought the week before for distribution with the cards.

      Unable to join us on Friday? No worries.  A second shopping opportunity will be available on Saturday, March 14 from 8am to noon when the sale opens to the public.

      Baked Goods direct from members' kitchens will also be available: get a freshly made pound cake for your Saturday night dinner. Enjoy a Grab & Go Cookie bag while shopping.

      Proceeds from this event will support our ongoing community outreach programs and the maintenance of our historic clubhouse.

      Program: Join us for lunch and hear about the fantastic Rienzi Mansion in River Oaks, known as the "Gem of Houston", an icon of local culture and art. We will hear from Emily Guerra, with the Museum of Fine Arts, who will tell us about the history of the Rienzi House Museum, a River Oaks home built in 1952 and opened to the public in 1999. 

      Potluck Luncheon:  Please bring your favorite savory dish or dessert.

      We will tour the impressive Rienzi, view its European decor, paintings, miniatures, and art, then stroll through its fabulous gardens, just as they bloom for Spring!

      When and Where: We will meet at the clubhouse at 10am to carpool. 

      Dress Attire: Wear your HHWC T-shirts and comfortable shoes (amount of strolling is optional).

      Lunch:  Lunch will be at the Black Walnut Cafe, 5512 Memorial Dr., featuring "a chef-driven menu that focuses on fresh fare and comforting classics." Menu here.

      The Barnes family is in trouble. Dickie’s once-lucrative car business is going under―but Dickie is spending his days in the woods, building an apocalypse-proof bunker with a renegade handyman. His wife, Imelda, is selling off her jewelry on eBay and half-heartedly dodging the attention of fast-talking cattle farmer Big Mike, while their teenage daughter, Cass, formerly top of her class, seems determined to binge drink her way through her final exams. As for twelve-year-old PJ, he’s on the brink of running away.

      If you wanted to change this story, how far back would you have to go? To the infamous bee sting that ruined Imelda’s wedding day? To the car crash one year before Cass was born?
